Many young adults are not motivated by the "physical education" that they receive, as they find it too competitive and regimented. The circus arts bring to these young people the opportunity to be physical whilst learning skills that contribute to enhancing their interpersonal skills, team working, self expression and communication, thereby forming and building relationships without direct competitiveness.
Our workshops are also aligned to the Government's overall objective to increase young people's level of fitness and tackle the ever-growing levels of obesity, whilst making physical activity fun for them. We offer workshops in the following areas:
- Acrobatics: (very physical) it aims to bring awareness to the body's exceptional abilities - for example, learning to somersault, supporting other people on one's shoulders, tumbling on mattresses and so on. In addition, this work enhances relationships and trust-building skills.
- Aerial: (very physical) rope climbing, standing on or hanging upside down from a trapeze, being held by someone whilst performing various tricks. These are some of the challenging physical movements that we deliver in full safety, with security harnesses and mattresses on the floor below, supervised and taught by our team of experienced aerialists.
- Drama: working on improvisation and role play in every day circumstances, this work is used to acquire the necessary skills for clowning, combined with other circus skills.
- Juggling : skills that will show young people how much control they have over the independent use of their limbs, increasing concentration, dexterity and speed.
